My name is Rachel Yejin Kim, and my artistic journey began as a young child, where I developed an early love for drawing and exploring creative expression. My passion for art and teaching led me to earn a degree in Illustration from VCUarts, followed by a Master’s in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, which I completed last year. I am currently a visual artist based in New York City, and an art teacher.

My work is an exploration of design processes, where I enjoy seeing how various techniques (particularly printmaking and painting) can push the boundaries of storytelling. I primarily work with printmaking methods such as lithography and screen printing, along with watercolor, oil, and acrylic paints. These mediums allow me to explore delicate, detailed compositions that often reflect my love for nature, florals, and the depiction of women. These themes resonate deeply within my work, offering a quiet yet powerful way to connect with the viewer.

My art style is often described as delicate, with intricate details that evoke the spirit of the Art Nouveau movement, which is one of my greatest influences. The flowing forms, harmonious designs, and emphasis on beauty in nature within Art Nouveau continue to shape my approach to both form and content.

When I’m not in the studio or teaching, I indulge in my other passions, such as ballet, cooking, knitting, playing the violin and piano, watching films, and exploring the dynamic city around me. These activities all contribute to the richness of my creative expression and serve as a reminder of the many ways art can intersect with the rhythms of daily life.
